Our Petsitting Details
In-home Meet and Greet Consultation
Our initial consultation is complimentary, and lasts approximately 1 hour. This time is dedicated to you and your sitter getting to know one another, and to allow time for your sitter and pet(s) to bond. Your sitter will also be documenting important, detailed information on how to best care for your pet(s) and home while you are away.
PET VISITS
Goals to Accomplish During Each Visit
- Bring in mail, bring trash cans up to the home if left at the curb
- After entering the home, close and lock the door behind you (e.g. garage door, gate, front or back door, etc.)
- Always use caution and ensure that no pets escape upon entry
- Take pet(s) directly outside to go potty. This should be done immediately upon arrival.
- NEVER leave a pet outdoors unattended
- If pet is not crated, survey the home for any messes and clean up promptly
- Feed pet(s) and let them back outside to go potty again
- Spend time petting and loving the animals, take pet(s) for a walk
- Always have poop bags with you at all times
- In rainy or snowy weather, be sure to dry the pet off upon return
- Return all collars and leashes where you found them
- Wash/dry food and water bowls, and provide fresh water and treats
- Ensure all faucets are shut off completely and not dripping
- Be sure to wipe up kitchen counters and floor if necessary
- Ensure that the house is as clean and tidy as when you arrived
- Write up a short note on your pet visit in the progress book
- Note the pet’s potty progress, confirm that you have fed/watered/walked the pet(s), and retrieved any payments they may have left for WNW
- Also provide notes if you notice anything out of the ordinary regarding pet(s) or the client’s home. Contact the client while you are there as well.
- Wash your hands between pet visits to prevent spread of illness
- Turn on/off lights as requested by the client
- Ensure the pet(s) are put back in their crate, and that door is securely shut
- Ensure all doors to client’s home are securely locked, and that the garage door has shut properly.
Extremely Important Caution Points
- Do not take pet(s) outside without a leash, even if the client states that it is okay to do so, unless there is a fenced in yard
- Always check that the gates are secure
- NEVER trust an electric fence
- Do not let pet(s) approach other dogs, or vice versa. This is to avoid injuries, and/or sudden or unexpected aggression.
- Do not leave pet waste in the house, or on the lawn
- Always use poop bags
- Dispose poop bags in an appropriate dog waste receptacle, NEVER inside a client’s home
- Never enter a client’s home with wet or muddy shoes
- Always use shoe covers that we have provided you
- Be extremely careful of what you use on a client’s carpets if a pet has had an accident.
- When cleaning up pet vomit, stool, or anything else with a foul odor, do not throw the mess away in a trash can inside the home.
- The mess should be put in an outside garbage container, or into a plastic bag and take it with you to dispose of at a different location.
- Never leave a client’s door unlocked, even if you are within site of the home
- If you must use a client’s facilities, wait and listen for the toilet water to shut off. Do not leave if you hear the toilet water continuously running.
Find your own rhythm, enjoy your time with the pets, and HAVE FUN! These are goals that all of us will accomplish by ourselves, and as a team, so here’s to doing so with a great sense of pride and joy!
